The traditional huge Ropecon VTES tournament is approaching, this year it happens on Friday July 31st, starting at 18:00. As usual, there is no separate entry fee but a Ropecon 2009 ticket is required.
This year the tournament is also the Finnish European Championships 2009 Qualifier (ECQ), which means that the top 25% scorers will be “qualified” to attend the EC, which will be held in Palma de Mallorca in November. This also (probably) means a spiffy t-shirt, so even if you aren't going to the EC you will (again, probably) get something extra to show for your efforts.
This year is also special in that LSJ is the Guest of Honor at the Con! We didn't assign him any judge duties (he gets quite enough of that at work :), but there is a good chance that he'll stop by and see what's going on. This also means that we'll have a very good rulings authority in case someone manages to ask especially tricky rules questions ;)
The normal VEKN Constructed Tournament Rules are in effect. We'll be playing 3 x 2-hour rounds, plus a finals round. Yes, this means that the finals will be played in the early hours – deal with it (and caffeinate yourself properly :).
There will be some prizes for the finalists, and probably something also for some other top scorers… we'll see.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of skill level. The atmosphere has usually been quite relaxed, and I'd like to keep it that way. No deck lists are required – I trust players to behave, and to date they have (thanks, guys!). I do have one request: please don't enter the tournament unless you intend to play all three rounds. Players dropping off randomly plays hell with seating arrangements and causes delays for everyone.
Registration on-site ends at 17:30! You can also pre-register by emailing me, I'll add pre-regs to the list below so you get confirmation.
Important change: due to confusion on earlier years, this year I'd like to request that the pre-registered people also stop by the registration desk to let me know that they are actually present (no need to be there at 17:30, just do it before 18:00). This way we'll (maybe) prevent some hassle if someone has preregistered but doesn't show up.
I'll be reading my email (and accepting pre-regs) up to about 16:00 on Friday, after that please phone or send a text message if you need to reach me.
